Vision Architect and Cultural Alchemist.
What moves me most about my work is that it bridges continents, generations, and ways of knowing. My expertise in youth development and international education shapes my rare approach to institutional transformation. As a firstborn immigrant who learned to see 10 steps ahead, I specialize in revealing the gaps between organizational mission and lived experience.
I guide institutions beyond surface-level diversity toward environments where young people truly understand themselves and their potential. Aside from my work with students and institutions, I co-create spaces that honor connection, purpose, and transformation through my newsletter, Letters from the +255, my podcast explorations on identity and belonging in Tanzania, and my residency program.
Maisha matamu in the liminal space.
Whether curating fashion that tells heritage stories, facilitating strategic vision sessions, or tending to The Well, I embody the truth that life–maisha matamu–is sweet when lived in full color and genuine community.

"Nenelwa has what we call quiet power. She inspires people to stop and reflect and interacting with her leaves you truly inspired to be and do better. Working with her has made me more knowledgeable and move in kinder ways that emulate her-the exact style of leadership we desperately need for society and especially the youth. Thank you for everything Nenelwa!"
Rukia H. | Northern TZ Regional Manager, Somo
"Nenelwa is more than just a consultant; she's a true friend and partner. Her positive attitude and warm, approachable aura make her stand out in a crowd, while her professionalism and genuine care for her students shine through in everything she does. I give her my highest recommendation without hesitation!"
Jenn P. | Assistant Director of International Recruitment, Goucher College
"Nenelwa played a pivotal role in my journey to Goucher, from guiding me through the application process to helping me secure a scholarship. Even after she left Goucher to pursue further studies, she continued to check in and offer support, which meant the world to me. Now, she continues the ripple she started by co-creating spaces like the admitted student dinners, where I get the opportunity to share my wisdom and pay it forward to future Gophers. Her presence has shaped my path in ways I’ll always be grateful for."
Lucas M. | Goucher Alumna Class of 2020, Tanzania
"Through our collaboration, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and expertise that Nenelwa brings to her role. She has been an invaluable resource for me and my students, and her willingness to provide detailed information about Goucher College's programs and admissions process are truly appreciated.
Nenelwa's excellent communication skills and collaborative spirit have made it easy for us to work together to support our students. Her dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students is truly inspiring. I highly recommend Nenelwa to any student or institution seeking to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment."
Dr. Alice A K King | EducationUSA Advisor, U.S. Consulate General Cape Town
"I have worked with Nenelwa Tomi in three distinct capacities, and in each instance, she has shown professionalism, passion, and a deep commitment to student success. Nenelwa has consistently demonstrated a student-centred approach, taking the time to understand each student’s unique needs and dreams. She is generous with her time, supportive of school counselors, and always ready to share her wealth of knowledge. Her advocacy for equitable access to education and her commitment to creating inclusive spaces for all students is inspiring."
